Elliot A. Asare, MD, MS, CMQ, FACS is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Surgical Oncology within the Division of General Surgery at the University of Utah. He practices both at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Intermountain Healthcare Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. His clinical practice focuses primarily on cutaneous malignancies, retroperitoneal sarcomas, and other soft tissue tumors.
Dr. Asare received his medical education at Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He completed his General Surgery residency training at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in Milwaukee, WI.
Dr. Asare served as a clinical scholar-in-residence with the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) during his residency. Following residency, he trained in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.
Dr. Asare currently serves as the vice chair of the Editorial Committee of the AJCC. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Annals of Surgical Oncology and Frontiers in Oncology. At the University of Utah, he is the director of surgical oncology education within the Division of Surgery.
Dr. Asare’s research interests include cancer staging, health services research with a focus on rural healthcare disparities, and global surgery.
