Surgical Oncology Fellow
The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital
Alec Shannon is currently a fellow in Complex General Surgical Oncology at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Proudly from Pittsburgh and an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, he attended Cornell University where he played hockey and majored in Human biology health and society. After graduating from Cornell, Dr. Shannon spent two years abroad in the Peace Corps in the small West African country of Benin, where he was a rural community health volunteer with a focus on assisting victims of child trafficking. Along with another Peace Corps Volunteer, he founded a 501c3 non-profit organization to assist victims of child trafficking in Benin, where he still serves as a member of the board. Inspired by his time in the Peace Corps, Dr. Shannon then attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, prior to matching in General Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia.
