Amy Scheel is a first year pediatrics resident at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Since 2015 she has been involved in a multitude of research projects focused on both the prevention and detection of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in Uganda under the mentorship of Andrea Beaton. She has published multiple research articles related to this work and authored the recently published guidelines for standardizing the epidemiologic surveillance of RHD. She lived in Uganda full time for two years collaborating closely with Imaging the World (ITW) and the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) to implement echocardiographic screening during routine antenatal care to determine the impact of RHD on pregnancy.
