Ronald Anguzu is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the Institute for Health and Equity at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is a physician-scientist, originally from Uganda with background training in internal medicine and surgery. His experience includes conducting community-based research aimed at addressing disparities in risk factors and outcomes among vulnerable populations of women and children. His research interests in maternal and child health focus on investigating disparities in service utilization and maternal health outcomes, for example, rural-urban differences in skilled birth delivery, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and reducing high-risk pregnancies like adolescent pregnancy. He also has expertise in the design and implementation of clinical drug trials and mixed methodology studies. Dr. Anguzu’s doctoral research focused on designing and testing health facility-based interventions aimed at increasing the detection of intimate partner violence (IPV) among pregnant women (perinatal IPV) in Uganda. He also examined the impact of prenatal clinic-based IPV screening on perinatal IPV detection. Dr. Anguzu is collaborating with U.S.-based researchers to investigate risk factors for mortality among appropriate for gestation-age birthweight infants and examining disabilities among pregnant women.
