Medical Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine
OhioHealth Physician Group
Columbus, Ohio, United States
Mona Prasad, DO MPH is currently the System Chief of Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine for OhioHealth, Columbus, Ohio, having previously trained and spent her early faculty years at The Ohio State University. She is currently the principal investigator for the NICHD MFMU observational study of HCV in pregnancy. The first manuscript from that work was published last year in the Green Journal, and it adds the MFMU experience to the national discussion of universal screening for HCV in pregnancy. The second manuscript is forthcoming.
Dr Prasad initially has long had an academic interest in mother to child transmission of HCV, stemming from her Masters in Public Health in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology. In caring for mother’s affected by HCV, she additionally identified the lack of comprehensive care available to mothers with opiate use disorder. This prompted her to begin a multidisciplinary clinic to provide MAT to obstetric patients, to begin developing as a subject matter expert to advocate for this population, and ultimately to become board certified in addiction medicine. As systems of care are becoming more accessible to pregnant women with OUD, it is fitting to now begin to leverage those systems to provide care for HCV as well. The discussion is just beginning regarding optimal care of dyads affected by HCV, and she is happy to contribute to that base of knowledge.
