Joan E. Briller, MD, FACC, FASE, FAHA is Professor of Medicine (Cardiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology) at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she directs the Women and Heart Disease Program. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University, fellowship in cardiology at the University of Chicago and is board certified in echocardiography. Her focus is on cardio-obstetrics. As a member of the Illinois Maternal Mortality Committee, she has joined national efforts to reduce maternal cardiovascular deaths. She has served as a co-investigator for IPAC, a multicenter NHLBI-funded study on the role of immune activation and myocardial recovery in peripartum cardiomyopathy and on the steering committee for REBIRTH, an NHLBI randomized study of bromocriptine therapy for this illness associated with substantial maternal morbidity and mortality. She has served on advisory committees for the Sister to Sister Foundation, the Heart Truth Campaign and as a Chicago spokesperson for the AHA’s Go Red for Women activities. She recently received a Crain’s Chicago Business Award for her efforts helping underserved and underinsured minority patients and a 2022 7th International CPP award for her contributions to the fiel of pregnancy and heart disease. She is excited to return to participate in this SMFM conference.
