Dr. Michaela K. Farber is Chief of the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Associate Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Farber serves on the BWH Office for Women’s Careers Advisory Committee, the High-Risk Surgical Obstetrics Committee, and the L&D Quality Committee at BWH. Dr. Farber serves on the Massachusetts Maternal Mortality Review Committee for the Department of Public Health and has served on three task forces for the Massachusetts Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Improvement Network (PNQIN).
Dr. Farber served as BWH fellowship program director for OB anesthesia for 12 years, mentoring 56 fellows. Dr. Farber received the BWH Center for Faculty Development and Diversity Pillar Award for Educational Program Leadership, Mentor of the Year Award from BWH Anesthesia, and Teacher of the Year Award from the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). Dr. Farber currently serves on the SOAP Board of Directors. Dr. Farber has a strong reputation as a leading expert in postpartum hemorrhage management. Her clinical investigations to date have defined postpartum hemorrhage preparedness, national trends, impact of quantitative blood loss and point-of-care coagulation testing, risk assessment models, anesthetic management of placenta accreta spectrum, and pharmacokinetics of tranexamic acid therapy.
