Andrew J. Satin, M.D. (Col USAF retired) is the Dr. Dorothy Edwards Professor and Director (Chair) of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the Obstetrician Gynecologist-in Chief of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine. He is currently the immediate past President of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Satin completed ob gyn residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and fellowship in MFM at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (Parkland Hospital). Prior to his recruitment to Johns Hopkins, his distinguished 25 –year military career included serving as Chair of the Department of Ob / Gyn at the USUHS and as program director of education programs at Walter Reed AMC and the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda. Dr. Satin is an internationally recognized leader in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine. He has published numerous manuscripts and lectured extensively on topics including labor management, medical education, simulation, and patient safety. He is the PI of the NIH Johns Hopkins Women’s Reproductive Health Research Career Development Program (WRHR) and co-PD of the JH NIH Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health Program (BIRCWH), and the PI/PD on the JH Allegheny Health Network- Highmark Health Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Women’s Health Collaborative. Among his leadership roles at Johns Hopkins, he is co-Chair of the Professorial Promotions Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. In addition to his leadership position at ABOG, national leadership roles have included membership on the ACGME RRC, and Chair of the ACOG Practice Bulletins and Clinical Document Review Committees, and Member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Maternal-fetal Medicine (SMFM).
