Dr. Elliott Main is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine and has directed the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative since its inception 12 years ago. He also serves as the Chair of the California Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review Committee under the aegis of the California Department of Public Health. CMQCC has developed QI implementation Toolkits for Hemorrhage, Severe Hypertension, Supporting Vaginal Birth/Reducing Primary Cesareans, Cardiac Disease, Maternal Sepsis and Maternal-Baby Substance Use. These have been used successfully in large-scale quality collaboratives to reduce state rates of maternal morbidity and first birth cesareans.
Nationally, Dr. Main serves as the Implementation Director for the AIM Initiative, the national multi-organization project for the reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality funded thru Maternal Child Health Bureau and based at ACOG. Dr Main co-led the development of the first AIM national safety bundle--Obstetric Hemorrhge. AIM is now supporting state Perinatal Quality Collaboratives in over 40 states. He has served or chaired national committees on Maternal Quality Measurement and Value Based Payment for ACOG, the AMA, The Joint Commission, Leap Frog and CMS. He has authored multiple articles on maternal mortality, obstetric outcomes, and perinatal collaboratives. In 2013, Dr. Main received the ACOG Distinguished Service Award for his work in quality improvement.
