BIOGRAPHY
As an expert in prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy, Dr. Copel has pioneered new diagnostic techniques for unborn patients and their mothers. He is also an expert in both surgical and non-invasive approaches to maternal-fetal care.
After completing a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital, Dr. Copel arrived at YNHH in 1983 to complete a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine with Yale University School of Medicine. He stayed on to become a professor in two departments at Yale: Ob/Gyn and Pediatrics. Dr. Copel’s clinical interests include echocardiography, chorionic villus sampling, fetal therapy, and first trimester pregnancy screenings.
Dr. Copel has served as President of the American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, and the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has also served a term as a member of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is an editor of Creasy & Resnik, "Maternal-Fetal Medicine Principles and Practice" (7th ed, 2018), and the Editor-in-Chief of "Obstetric Imaging, Fetal Diagnosis and Care" (2nd ed, 2017).
