Kartik is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, maternal-fetal medicine specialist, and PhD epidemiologist. His research focuses on diabetes in pregnancy and health disparities. Kartik has published over >100 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts focused on diabetes in pregnancy, maternal morbidity, and infectious diseases in pregnancy. He has methodological expertise in clinical trials, prospective cohorts, and clinical prediction models. He has led multiple trials and cohort studies in the U.S and in resource-limited settings, and is currently funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and DEXCOM to study the impact of continuous glucose monitoring, mobile applications, and addressing social needs on glycemic control for pregnant individuals with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. As a physician-scientist, Kartik’s overarching goal is to improve pregnancy outcomes for individuals living with diabetes using innovative approaches that integrate clinical trials, perinatal epidemiology, and precision medicine.
He joined The Ohio State University in 2020 as an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Epidemiology. He completed his undergraduate education at Brown University graduating magna cum laude, phi beta kappa in Sanskrit/Classics and Anthropology. He completed his MD from the Alpert Medical School at Brown University, and his PhD in epidemiology from the Brown School of Public Health. He completed post-doctoral training at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital integrated program, and fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
