Telemedicine and digital innovation have supported an evolution in prenatal care through home monitoring of blood pressure, weight, and glucose, thereby reducing the number of in-office visits for low-risk pregnancies, patients with hypertensive disorders, or gestational diabetes. However, the highest risk patients that need serial fetal surveillance remain bound to frequent in-office non-stress tests (NSTs). Recent developments in remote fetal monitoring technology are finally making at-home pregnancy surveillance possible, opening the door to improved access, compliance, workflow, and satisfaction for patients and providers. Join Dr. Schwartz as we explore the opportunities and challenges for expanding remote prenatal care to the most vulnerable pregnant patients.
