While obstetric complications such as preeclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage are leading causes of pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality, other less prevalent illnesses threaten the health of many mothers and newborns across the globe. This forum will start with presentations about select diseases that either are dramatically underrecognized relative to their disease burden among obstetric patients or are increasingly spreading and related initiatives to improve screening, treatment, and prevention. These will be followed by a round robin discussion from experts from various sectors about related opportunities and challenges including on topics of disease surveillance and workforce development.
