SMFM weighs many factors when choosing Annual Meeting sites: the venue must be able to accommodate a meeting of our size, have reasonable costs, and be close to an airport with good access for domestic and international arrivals. We also prioritize cities that have a lower likelihood of weather-related travel delays. Sites must be booked five to 10 years in advance, and sites for the next several years were initially booked many years ago. More recently we have added another factor central to the Society's mission: reproductive rights. All new Annual Meeting contracts now include a "frustration of purpose" clause. This clause recognizes that circumstances that fundamentally frustrate a party's reason or purpose for entering a contract may arise after the contract is signed. This clause allows SMFM to terminate a contract if the state enacts a particularly restrictive abortion law. A venue’s willingness to accept this clause, among the other factors mentioned, determines whether they are a viable option for the meeting.
Breakfast is included in your registration fee for the postgraduate courses and will be available on-site. Lunch is not included in your postgraduate course registration; however, there is a food court near to the Moscone West convention center for lunch options, as well as industry-sponsored learning lunches. More information on those will be available as the meeting approaches.
CME will be available for attending the postgraduate courses. The exact amount will be available as the postgraduate courses are announced. CME is not available for attending the scientific sessions; however, a certificate of attendance is available for all registrants.
SMFM attendees and exhibitors may receive emails from spammers soliciting sales of attendee lists. While SMFM sends cease and desist notices, these bad actors continue to spam attendees and exhibitors and are not associated with the Society or the Annual Meeting in any way. Should you receive such an email, please do not reply. You may forward the email to events@smfm.org and we will forward the spam to the FCC. If you are unsure about the legitimacy of an email, please forward to Nneka St. Gerard, Chief Strategy Officer, at nstgerard@smfm.org.
SMFM no longer provides onsite childcare during the Annual Meeting, following years of the service being underutilized by conference attendees. Instead, we connect with the local area to identify vetted childcare resources that attendees can use to arrange childcare in the comfort of their hotel rooms. In San Francisco, the company is Destination Sitters: https://www.destinationsitters.com/babysitters/san-francisco-ca. We will continue to survey meeting attendees regarding onsite childcare during the meeting to determine if there is demand to offer it in the future.
