Purpose: To evaluate the use of risk stratification and subsequent outcomes of pulmonary embolism.

Materials and Methods: Patients admitted with diagnosis of pulmonary embolism and CT in a large integrated healthcare system between January 2021 and October 2022 (N=505) were identified using data analytic software MDClone. Analysis was performed comparing a hospital where thrombectomy is commonly offered, and a hospital within the health system where standard therapy is offered. Baseline characteristics and outcomes, table 1, were compared using a t-test for continuous variables and a chi-square test for categorical variables.

Results: The overall 30 day mortality rate in Hospital A with catheter directed thrombectomy available is lower than Hospital B where typical treatment is with standard therapy (6.5% vs 12.3% , p < .05).

Conclusion: Risk stratification of pulmonary embolism patients to guide care supports real time decision-making and shows improved outcomes in decreased 30 day mortality in patients.
