Purpose: Purpose of this study was to summarize the survey results regarding usage of and barriers in adopting the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Structured Reports (SR) from a large sample of IR practitioners.

Materials and Methods: A single event, cross-sectional exploratory questionnaire was sent to 3,178 SIR members. Data was collected over a 28-day period. Descriptive analysis was done on Microsoft Excel. Thematic analysis was performed on the free text responses by one investigator.

Results: Responses were obtained from 451 IR practitioners from 92 unique academic and 151 unique private practices. Of these, 75% use SR and 32% use the SIR SR for procedures. The most common barriers to usage include SR length (35% respondents), lack of awareness of the SR (31%), and lack of agreement on adoption within practices (27%). The greatest difference in expected challenges using and adopting SIR SR by respondents that do not us any SR of any kind and those that use SIR SR was "templates decrease my autonomy" (42% versus 8%, respectively). The concern "templates do not allow for enough narrative or free text" by non-SR users was realized in those that use SIR SR (41% in both groups). More than half of all respondents (55%) use SR for clinical encounters. Most respondents that use structured clinical notes also use clinical SR (83%). SR are used across 6 different dictation systems and 5 different electronic medical record systems.

Conclusion: The results from this questionnaire demonstrate insights regarding barriers in using and/or adoption of SR, as well as potential solutions. While some concerns expressed in non-users was realized in SIR SR users, the concerns may be addressed by education of SIR SR customization. Additionally, some feedback from this survey is based on older versions of the SIR SR. Many of these critiques have been addressed in the most current version of the SIR SR (Version 3.1).
