A pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) is the direct communication between the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein that results in a right to left circulatory system shunt. The shunted blood bypasses the pulmonary capillaries where gas exchange and filtration occurs and may result in hypoxemia, or bland or septic emboli with complications including stroke or brain abscess. The course will cover clinical presentation and diagnosis of PAVMs, endovascular management techniques, outcomes, post-procedure surveillance and finally the management of persistent PAVMs.
