Gender affirmation surgery is typically extensive and prone to complications. A study of these complications by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealed disturbingly high percentages of patients experiencing one or more complications. To achieve optimal and safe surgical outcomes, clinicians need to understand specific postoperative protocols aimed at decreasing errors, accelerating recovery, shorting length of stay, and instilling confidence in the patient. This session will explore a systematic approach to the postoperative management of gender affirmation surgery.
