Innovation Theater Breakfast (non-CME): Understanding a Patient-Centric Compression Solution for Use with a Diverse Patient Population, Include Those with Lymphedema
United Vein and Vascular Wound Centers Lutz, Florida
Sponsored by Urgo Medical North America.
While it is well accepted that compression remains the gold standard for patients with venous ulcers/venous insufficiency, compliance remains low, and patient profiles are quite variable in terms of comorbidities, leg diameter and ambulatory status. Achievement of therapeutic pressure, while maintaining high wear compliance rates and also managing comorbidities may be possible by a full understanding of Laplace’s law and adjusting for all the human variabilities using product design elements and an understanding of material and physical properties of the bandage materials. In this session, the presenters will discuss the disease condition, associated comorbidities (such as lymphedema), and clinical experience in real life with a unique Dual Compression System (DCS) that combines short- and long-stretch bandages. They will also discuss discovered biomechanical properties of the DCS and microscopy-based analysis of the interlocking system between the short- and long-stretch layers. It is believed these interlocking systems in DCS allows the maintenance of correct pressure over time under all ambulatory conditions and could be associated with the observed high compliance rates.
