Time for Action: Why Employers Are Responsible for Supporting Workers With Substance Use Disorders and How Collective Action Is Needed to Scale Best Practices Nationally

Although more than 14 million American workers are in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD), the workplace has often been overlooked as a primary source of support for these individuals. There is both a strong business case and a moral imperative for employers to understand and address employees’ SUD-related needs. Companies of all sizes can benefit by taking low-cost steps to help employees sustain their recovery and to maximize productivity on the job.

Attendees will learn about new data from a recent national study conducted by Fors Marsh that examined support for, attitudes toward, and experiences with substance use recovery in the workplace. In addition, session attendees will have an opportunity to interact with federal, state, and corporate leaders and contribute to a collaborative discussion about establishing a national standard based on current best practices from each sector.
