Mr. Solem began his 10-year career in education, spanning all facets, in order to make the biggest impact for students. As an administrator, he was able to impact high-level change, thus affording students more options and availability to better fit their interests. As a social studies teacher he was able to engage students' understanding of how the past can impact the present and future. As a coach (emphasis on hockey) he imparted so many more life lessons to his players and became a beloved mentor. Unfortunately he, like many others, sustained an injury in his neck which resulted in an opioid treatment plan that evolved into long-term opioid use. The cycle of treatment stays, jail stays, and periods of recovery continued and eventually, as happens to so many, culminated into pan-substance use disorder. Now, in long-term recovery and a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, he uses his skills from years in education to reach and impart knowledge, hope and guidance for others navigating their recovery journeys.
