Dr. Kocher is a practicing emergency physician, associate professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Learning Health Sciences at the University of Michigan, and a health services researcher affiliated with the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. He is also the Director of the Michigan Emergency Department Improvement Collaborative (MEDIC), a network of hospitals across the state of Michigan dedicated to improving the quality of emergency care for all. His work focuses on optimizing the value of emergency and acute care delivery, performance measurement, quality improvement, and implementation of best practices. He has studied the implementation of harm reduction interventions for opioid use disorder in the emergency department setting, including increasing capacity to prescribe buprenorphine and building naloxone dissemination programs for those at risk of overdose.
