Dr. Pickens has served as an epidemiologist and Science Officer within CDC's Division of Overdose Prevention since 2019. Her work focuses on the surveillance and research of nonfatal overdoses, particularly stimulant-involved overdoses, polysubstance overdoses, and the association between nonfatal overdoses and social determinants of health. She also supports states working on CDC's Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) cooperative agreement. Prior to this position, she was an EIS Officer and a contractor in CDC's Chronic Disease Center. She earned her PhD and MPH in epidemiology from Emory University and her BS in Biology from Duke University.
