Dacia Beard, MPH is a solutions-driven, community-engaged professional offering more than a decade of experience coordinating public health and communications campaigns in the federal government and academic sectors. She manages the operations of the Communications Core of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS), an $89 million NIDA/SAMHSA-funded research award to Boston Medical Center to reduce opioid overdose deaths in 16 communities across Massachusetts. She plays an integral role in assisting coalitions and community teams in the design, implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of campaigns about fentanyl, naloxone, medication for opioid use disorder, treatment retention, and stigma. She co-facilitates the national HCS Communications Work Group and represents Massachusetts in the HCS Website Task Force and Intervention Work Group.
Prior to joining BUSPH, examples of her work included: the development and implementation of award-winning NCI communications resources to guide and engage the extramural community in cancer epidemiologic research, collaborations, and priority-setting; production of NIDDK Director's Healthy Moments broadcast with 16.4 million annual listeners on Radio One stations in 5 major-city markets and during the Tom Joyner and Yolanda Adams Morning Shows; and cultivation of a leadership model to combat workplace toxicity.
Ms. Beard displays expertise in project management, communications, leadership, strategic planning, capacity building, and relationship management. Ms. Beard received a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, a Master of Public Health and a program evaluation graduate certificate from the University of Pittsburgh, and was certified as a health education specialist. In 2023, she graduates with a Master of Business Administration from Boston University.
