Angel Laite has been a full time Deputy Sheriff with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office since 2000. Prior to this, Angel was employed with the Winter Garden Police Department from August 1987 continuously through June of 2000. During this time, Angel has worked in Patrol and the Detective Divisions as both a uniformed investigator and in an undercover capacity. She is currently assigned to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation within the Physicians Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit. During this time Angel has been involved in cases that specialize in the area of Pharmaceutical Crimes and in the area of enforcing crimes involving Health Care Professionals and the diversion of prescription drugs. She works closely with the Florida Department of Health, as the administrative enforcement agency for the Health Care Profession. In Angel’s current position, she investigates incidents pertaining to the diversion of controlled narcotic prescription medications, “pill” dealers, pharmacists, physicians, and their employees. She also investigates incidents of individuals practicing medicine or providing health care type services without having the proper licensure to do so. During this assignment, Angel has been at the forefront of the opioid epidemic as it pertained to pill mills, her expertise and diligence had a marked impact on the operation of those pill mills throughout Florida at a time when it lead the nation in prescription me dication crime. Angel has made at least two hundred arrests related to the illegal diversion of controlled and non-controlled prescription drugs; and individuals who were practicing medicine without a license.
