Dr. DePhilippis is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 29 years of experience as a clinician, researcher, and educator, predominantly, in the field of addictions treatment. He earned his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology in 1992 from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA. Of the 29 published manuscripts he co-authored, he served as first author on 6. He serves as the Deputy National Mental Health Director for Substance Use Disorders in the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He has particular interests and expertise in expanding access to evidence-based SUD treatment and measurement-based SUD care. Since 2011, he has coordinated VA’s national implementation of Contingency Management (CM) – the largest implementation of CM in the world. He also serves as a trainer in VA’s national training programs in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders. Dr. DePhilippis also is a Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
