This session will track methamphetamine developments nationally and then dive deeper into the state of Tennessee and Perry County, Kentucky. Christopher Jones will provide the latest trends in methamphetamine use and overdose, new research and insights into use and supply patterns, and discuss strategies to address rising methamphetamine use in the context of the overall overdose crisis in the U.S. Thomas Farmer will cover the latest crime trends in methamphetamine use and overdoses in Tennessee, the rise of methamphetamine use by juveniles, and discuss the increase of violent crime nationally and its impact on Tennessee from a law enforcement perspective. Finally, Jennifer Havens will explore the dramatic increases in methamphetamine use observed in a cohort of people who use opioids in rural Appalachia. Followed since 2008, the shifts in drug use over time among 503 rural people with a focus on use of methamphetamine will be presented.
