Criminal drug networks are mass-producing fake pills and falsely marketing them as legitimate prescription pills to deceive the American public. These pills are widely available, often contain fentanyl, and can be deadly. Fake prescription pills are easily accessible and often sold on social media and e-commerce platforms, making them available to anyone with a smartphone, including minors.
In this update to his standing-room-only session from the 2022 Rx Summit, Deputy Special Agent in Charge Jae Chung will provide an overview of various issues related to fake pills and why they are so dangerous, DEA’s One Pill Can Kill Campaign, and community-based efforts to prevent opioid misuse, including fake pills. Ample time will be provided for a question-and-answer period with attendees.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the dangers associated with fake pills
Identify information and resources related to fake pills, fentanyl, and methamphetamine in an effort to drive down drug poisonings
Discuss partnering with local, state and federal law enforcement, prevention and public health organizations to elevate the awareness of these dangerous and potentially deadly fake pills
