In crafting and quilting, imagination and creativity are the most important elements. One quilting piece can and should project the maker's hopes, wishes, and passions to the world. While it is delightful that Sashiko can now be found in many art forms including quilting, sometimes the word is used without proper understanding and acknowledgment. While anyone can use the word “Sashiko” as they wish, it is important to acknowledge that there are stories and people behind the word. Sashiko introduced in English today is NOT wrong, but insufficient. Let’s discuss the cultural significance of Sashiko to maintain the understanding of this beautiful stitch craft.
