Required Supplies: The thread, batting and needles suggestions are my choices but you can use whatever you have on hand.

Fabric cutting scissors, shared scissors will be provided but you may bring your own if wish to maximize your class time. Sujata also suggests every student have a pair of snips

22” X 22” Square piece of lightweight fabric for backing
21” X 21” Square thin batting - Quilter's Dream (request)
Fabric Scraps ranging in colors and size. Bring light-weight and loosely woven fabrics to work with and avoid batiks as they are too hard to quilt through.
Prep Requirements: Workshop Prep
Place the batting centering on the wrong side of the backing.
Fold over the edges on to the batting.
Hand baste the folded over edges to secure the batting with 1/2" long stitches.
Kawandi is a word for a quilt, used by African Diaspora and the quilters in the villages of the west coast of India. This meditative, slow stitching process teaches the maker to be spontaneous and present. Students will learn to make a simple patchwork by hand using just the needle and thread, and scraps of new and old fabrics. During this workshop, Sujata will share how to document your daily life and special events with stitches and discuss the importance of stitching each day. She will also share a few tips and hand movements for better mobility and relaxation of hands.
