NOTE: Materials fees are required for some workshops. These fees are paid directly to faculty and are not part of your registration fee. Required Supplies: 1.Pattern of your choice--Tissue pattern from traditional pattern or pdf pattern that should be purchased, sent to be printed by a pdf plotting service in time for class prep. 2. Dressmakers pins (shorter than the longer quilt pins) 3. Unwashed Muslin fabric straight from the bolt and ironed-- DO NOT PREWASH. Premium Muslin is best, be aware of the fabric width for correct yardage 4. Regular #2 pencil and a second pencil in a different color 5. Ruler or seam guide to mark seam allowances (NOTE: seam allowances vary on patterns from different companies and not all are marked). 6. Tape to spread or overlap patterns as needed
Optional Supplies: A wrist pin cushion is a good thing to have when pinning your fitting partner. Fabric Shears (Scissors) (not needed if you cut before class). Shared shears will also be provided. Prep Requirements: YES, we are pin basting--Must use your coat pattern to cut out your desired size of the 5 key pieces from the unwashed muslin fabric-- back, left front, right front, left arm, right arm. Be careful to label each piece with pencil. The L and R sides are more apparent, but L and R arms may be different, so be aware. Bring pattern with you for reference to seam allowances. NO NEED TO CUT OUT POCKETS--but you can if you want to check placement. For Multi Sized patterns, make sure all pieces are cut following the same line for your desired size. Please take the time outside of class to prep all the cutting in advance. It can take up to a couple of hours to find pattern pieces and cut out the correct sizes. Additional Supply Kit URL: If using a pdf pattern and this is your first time, Sew Liberated has a great tutorial. You will want to send the pattern out for large sheet printing (instead of taping together "tiles" of regular paper!) https://sewliberated.com/blog/pdf-plotting

Quilt coats provide endless possibilities to incorporate elements of modern quilting! Start with a favorite modern quilt block pattern, or keep the block pattern simple and use a favorite fabric line. Explore the use of alternative focal points of design for a coat that is distinctly unique! The foundation of this workshop will be an overview of common garment design elements that can impact the fit of your quilt coat, how to choose your materials and quilting for optimal drape, and the importance of considering design ease to achieve your desired final fitting. Students will leave the workshop with a project plan/map for their own quilt coat journey! This is a no-sew workshop. Prerequisite: Bring your favorite purchased modern quilt pattern.
