Dr. Alexander A. Berger MD MPH is a board certified urogynecologist and reconstructive pelvic surgeon at Penn Medicine. He has a strong commitment to advancing the care of women with pelvic floor disorders through leadership in national organizations, research and teaching of future urogynecology specialists. He received his undergraduate, master’s in public health, and medical degrees from Univeristy of North Carolina, where he was a junior inductee in Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded for teaching with the UNC Graduate Teaching Award. After graduating from UNC, he completed OB/GYN residency at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was awarded for my clinical care, teaching, scholarship and commitment to urogynecology and women’s health. As a fellow at the University of California/Kaiser San Diego joint program he was trained on the breadth and depth of care for women with pelvic floor disorders from a diverse group of faculty, while excelling in clinical research, scholarship and leadership. He is currently on the clinical faculty at Penn Medicine where he has continued his passion for clinical care, reseach and education of medical trainees.
He has been recognized with teaching awards at the University of North Carolina and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and has published extensive research on improving surgical outcomes and advancing surgical techniques. He mentors trainees and researchers throughout the country through my work with the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG), American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) and Society of Gynecologic Surgery (SGS). He advises the Fellows' Pelvic Research Network of SGS/AUGS, which leads multicenter trials to advance the care of women with pelvic floor disorders. He has graduated from the NIH funded AUGS UrogynCREST program and now serves as a peer advisor to current scholars.
