Michael J. Kennelly, MD is a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Urology at Wake Forest School of Medicine and Department of Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology at Atrium Health, Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Administratively, he is the Director of Urology at Atrium Health, Carolinas Rehabilitation Hospital and the Director of the Charlotte Continence Center and the Cabarrus Continence Center at Atrium Health.
Dr Kennelly completed his medical school training at University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1989. His postgraduate training included an internship and urologic residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his fellowship training in female urology, neurourology, urodynamics, and reconstructive urology through the Division of Urology at The University of Texas in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Kennelly is a Diplomat of The American Board of Urology with certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is also a member of more than 10 professional organizations and holds several leadership positions. He is Past President of the American Paraplegic Society, American Spinal Injury Association and Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals. He is the Chair of the Health Policy Committee and a Board of Director of the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction
Listed in Americas Top Doctors for 21 consecutive years (2002-2023), Dr. Kennelly’s clinical, educational, and academic expertise is in male and female voiding dysfunction, neurogenic bladder, and complex lower urinary tract and pelvic floor reconstruction. He participates in numerous clinical trials and regularly serves as organizer, invited lecturer and visiting professor at local, national, and international events. Dr. Kennelly authored or coauthored several journal articles, book chapters, and educational videos in the areas of urinary incontinence and neurourology and has lectured extensively on these topics.
