Dr. Briana Walton was the first fellow in the Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at Harvard Medical School/Mount Auburn Hospital in 1999. She also holds a Masters in the Business of Art and Design from Maryland Institute College of Art, 2016 and certification in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare from MIT, 2023.
After completing her FPMRS fellowship in 2002, she joined MedStar Washington Hospital Center as partner and Director of Benign Gynecology. Dr. Walton went on to begin and lead the Women's Center for Pelvic Health at Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) in 2008 until her departure in 2019.
She is the inaugural Medical Director of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) and Robotic Surgery at the University of Maryland Capital Region Health (UM Cap Region), which covers several institutions within the UMMS system. In addition to her role as a caregiver within UM Cap Region, she has created a vision to expand minimally invasive and robotic surgery within Prince George's County, MD, and beyond in the state of MD through programmatic growth, quality, cost containment, and safety for various disciplines outside of FPMRS. She also runs an intimate wellness practice, the Center for Feminine Wellness and Surgery, which concentrates on sexual function and cosmetic Gynecology. She uses her Master's to optimize patients' experiences through design and education and lecture regarding ergonomics and well-being and culture.
She has been a guest and lecturer at numerous regional, national, and international events. She has mentored and taught students, residents, fellows, and post-graduates in various educational settings. Dr. Walton strives to promote patient advocacy and improve healthcare literacy through social media, webinars, and other unique media, specifically as a cohost for a live hospital television show, DocsTalk 2012 to 2016, to promote the hospital mission of living healthier together.
