Cydni Akesson, B.A. is a fifth year medical student at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) who is applying into Obsetrics and Gynecology for the Match 2024. She is originally from southern California and moved to Cleveland, OH to attend Case Western Reserve University, where she earned her B.A. in biochemistry with a minor in sociology in 2017. She developed an interest in basic science research during her undergraduate career and continued pursuing this passion at CCLCM where she completed a thesis project investigating how the complement system influences the progression of endometriosis. She has a long-standing interest in health disparities and is the co-founder of the Minority Maternal Health Initiative (MMHI), a student-led interest group striving to provide race- and language-concordant antepartum navigation to high-risk pregnant patients. She intends to become a physician-scientist while contiuing to advocate for underserved populations in her future career.
