This presentation will provide a general overview of the current concepts in the diagnosis and management of Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain with a focus on recent changes in the AUA Guidelines. These changes reflect the evolving understanding of IC/BPS, particularly in how the early recognition of Hunner lesions can help tailor management to provide more effective care. In addition, we will discuss the evolution of these Guidelines from the previous focus on tier-based therapies to therapeutic classes to encourage multimodal management and better patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize the hallmark symptoms and signs of IC/BPS as pain or discomfort perceived to derive from the bladder, usually exacerbated by bladder filling, with coexisting urinary symptoms, such as frequency and urgency.
Describe the clinically heterogeneous features of IC/BPS, with a focus on recognizing and screening for Hunner lesions in appropriate populations
Understand the shift in therapeutic approaches from a tier-based system to a hierarchical approach, moving from least to most invasive, to allow providers to deliver multimodal, individualized treatment.
