Persistent genito-pelvic pain can be associated with many, and sometimes overlapping, conditions including endometriosis, IC/BPS, IBS, myalgias, neuralgias, and vulvodynia. Patients may experience chronic pain with intermittent exacerbations or ‘flares’ which makes this type of pain challenging to treat and frustrating for both patients and clinicians. This learning activity will review the factors to consider when a patient with chronic genito-pelvic pain presents for evaluation of a pain flare. Additionally, the lecture will provide an overview of procedures that can be used to manage pain flares in an office setting, such as trigger point injections, abdominal and intra-vaginal blocks, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, photobiomodulation, and bladder instillations. The evidence and protocol for performing each procedure will be reviewed, and emphasis will be placed on performing these procedures on women.
