Dyspnea is one of the most common complaints in the palliative setting, alongside other distressing symptoms including anorexia and cachexia, nausea and vomiting, constipation, and fatigue. Good symptom management is associated with improved patient and family quality of life, treatment adherence and survival advantages, but are often undertreated or poorly managed. This presentation will provide evidenced based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment approaches in the palliative setting.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize suitable candidates for palliative care
Identify medications used in the management of palliative symptoms including dyspnea, anorexia and cachexia, nausea and vomiting, constipation, and fatigue
Compare various treatment strategies for the management of palliative patients using a case-based approach
