This dynamic panel discussion centers on engaging Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities in the work. We will offer insights on how to effectively incorporate faith-based organizations, ways to teach YMHFA to BIPOC caregivers and lessons learned from a mixed method research study.

Learning Objectives:

Describe at least two ways communities of color in the US experience mental health challenges differently than other cultures and barriers to treatment that may be a result of these experiences (e.g., cultural mistrust).
Identify three best practices to conduct culturally relevant and appropriate marketing, recruitment and training strategies for community organizations utilizing MHFA to engage with communities of color.
Define two culturally relevant and strengths-based intervention strategies and self-advocacy skills that are pertinent to people of color and can be incorporated into the MHFA training experience.
