Addressing the mental health of an entire community requires the support and collaboration of organizations and individuals across different sectors of society. Taking a multifaceted approach to the promotion of mental health within a community will ensure long-lasting impact and sustainability. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an early intervention tool that plays a critical role in supporting this work. We will highlight the value of collaboration and coalition building when implementing MHFA and share stories from California where a bill was recently passed to support youth mental health in schools.

Learning Objectives:

How partnerships across many sectors, including philanthropy, corporations and governmental entities, can strengthen a community's ability to address complex matters like mental health.
Highlight California's journey to invest in youth mental health by introducing mental health training for school employees to improve health outcomes for students.
Understand how passing statewide legislation can increase support for mental health training initiatives.
