Dr. DeJuan White is a physician who serves as the Medical Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate and medical degree at Florida State University before joining the Emory community when he began the Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry Residency. He then completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry before joining faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Since then, he has maintained board certifications in general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and internal medicine. He also serves as Associate Program Director for the General Psychiatry residency program, and Small Group Advisor for the medical school. He has been awarded for his teaching skills including the Psychiatry Department’s Excellence in Teaching Award. Given his commitment to advocacy and service to the community, he was appointed to the Georgia Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission to evaluate and provide recommendations to improve Georgia’s mental health system. He has lectured and published articles on various topics including professional identity formation in individual underrepresented in medicine, medical conditions in individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses, diversity and equity issues in healthcare, and mental health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
