Neil Calmjoy is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Mental Health Professional at Catholic Community Services of Western Washington. He manages the Olympia, WA Arrest and Jail Alternatives (AJA) program, which provides intensive case management and peer support to individuals at the intersection of houselessness or housing instability, behavioral health challenges, and criminal justice involvement. The AJA team works collaboratively with law enforcement, courts, and a diverse range of other social service providers to provide long-term, person-centered, trauma-responsive, harm reductive support to some of the community’s highest utilizers of emergency services. As program manager, Neil is responsible for structural and policy development, budgeting and grant writing, staff training and supervision, and direct service to clients who experience the most acute behavioral health obstacles. He received his Masters of Social Work with a certificate in Disaster Mental Health and Trauma at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he also provided jail-based services for the Orleans Public Defenders, and later worked in permanent supportive housing.
