Angela Leath, MSW is contracted by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing as a National Trainer for the Mental Health First Aid Curriculum. She is also the founder and co-owner of Leathalminds, LLC, a mental fitness training and consulting business. Angela has over 20 years of experience working in the behavioral health field. She began her career as a case manager working with community members living with severe, diagnosed mental illness. She went on to serve for 8 years as a Mental Health Technician in the US Army. For the Army, Angela provided traumatic event management, behavioral health care, combat and operational stress management, and general mental health education to Soldiers and Leadership while deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
On October 1, 2017, the largest mass shooting in modern US history took place on the Las Vegas Strip. During this time, Angela was serving as the Crisis Intervention Administrator for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue (LVFR). Angela was responsible for organizing and implementing the Critical Incident Stress Response for LVFR employees and family members following this tragic event. She also provided support to the other First Responder and Public Safety organizations in the Las Vegas Valley. In the years to follow, Angela has served as a consultant to First Responder agencies across the country following traumatic events.
Angela has presented at numerous conferences on Critical Incident Stress Management and mental health challenges related to First Responders and was featured as a panelist in a Vegas PBS special highlighting First Responder Mental Health. She also introduced Nevada's stress injury bill (AB492), known as the "PTSD bill”, during the 2019 Nevada Legislative Session. In addition to her work within the First Responder community, Angela has conducted webinars for colleges and other organizations across the country on stress and healing following COVID 19 and managing burnout in helping professions. She also taught Mental Health First Aid classes to students in the Community Health Worker program for the College of Southern Nevada.
Angela is an advocate for mental health awareness and education in her community and around the country. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Nevada. To maintain her own mental fitness, Angela enjoys the healing effects of nature through hiking and camping with her family.
