Chaplain Abeda Khanam is a highly experienced educator and advocate for mental health and resilience. With over 25 years of teaching experience as a high school biology teacher with the New York City Department of Education, she has inspired countless students to pursue their passions and achieve their goals. Beyond her work in the classroom, Abeda is deeply committed to supporting marginalized communities and promoting mental well-being. She regularly teaches Mental Health First Aid Adult, Teen and Youth courses in faith-based and justice-impacted communities, sharing her knowledge and expertise with folks from all backgrounds. Chaplain Abeda's dedication to mental health promotion and resilience extends beyond the classroom and into the community, with her extensive work in New York City jails, where she provides crucial support and resources to incarcerated individuals as well as staff who recognize her unique blend of compassion, expertise, and dedication.
