Chad Costello, ACSW, CPRP
Chad is the Executive Director of the California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies (CASRA), a 27-member statewide association of non-profit providers serving adults in California’s county-operated public behavioral health system. Prior to moving into his current role in August 2021, he served as CASRA’s Director of Policy.
Preceding his work at CASRA, Chad spent 15 years as first the Director and then the Vice President of Policy for Mental Health America of Los Angeles, (MHALA) a non-profit mental health advocacy and services organization. He served as one of the lead trainers for the organization, including training dozens of counties in the use of MHALA’s Milestones of Recovery Scale (MORS), coordinating the organization’s Mental Health First Aid training efforts, instructing in the organization’s Jump Start Fellowship Program, guest lecturing at numerous colleges and universities and presenting at conferences. Before moving into his policy role, he spent three years as the Director of one of the care coordination teams at the renowned Village Integrated Services Agency, a program of MHALA located in Long Beach, CA.
Prior to his work at MHALA, he served as the Director of Programs for Mental Health Association of Orange County where he oversaw several programs serving adults experiencing behavioral health issues and homelessness.
He has served on the Boards of the California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies, the California Coalition for Mental Health, and Mental Health America of California.
He currently teaches courses in policy, community development and non-profit management at the Cal State University Long Beach School of Social Work and in psychiatric rehabilitation practice at Cerritos Community College in Norwalk, CA.
Chad received his master’s in social work from the University of Southern California, and his bachelor’s degree in social ecology from the University of California, Irvine.
