Carrie Slatton-Hodges is the Commissioner for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. In this role, Carrie helps ensure that addressing mental health and substance use issues remain a top priority for all Oklahomans. During her tenure at the ODMHSAS, she has led the charge to create a system that’s setting the national standard for prevention, treatment, and recovery for those impacted by mental illnesses and addiction. Carrie prioritizes services designed to address the needs of high-risk populations and continuously enhances a continuum of community-based services across the entire state. Under her leadership, Oklahoma is regarded as an industry innovator and is leading the nation’s launch of the 988 Mental Health Lifeline – creating the most comprehensive crisis response continuum in the nation that leverages technology and alternatives to law enforcement involvement.
Carrie has a bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University and a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She also serves on the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) Board of Directors and was recently named NASADAD’s recipient of State Service Award. As a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 30 years, Carrie has hands-on experience and an administrative track record to support that states can deliver transformative treatment and support services through strategic public/private partnerships. Carrie has a strong commitment to mental health and addiction recovery for Oklahomans and believes we all deserve to live a valuable, productive life in the community.
