Liane Nelson, Ph.D., is the Chief Psychologist, Director of the Doctoral Psychology Internship Program, and the Director of the Trager Lemp Center for Trauma and Resilience at Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) in Hartsdale, NY. The Trager Lemp Center is a multidisciplinary outpatient trauma team in existence since 1982. The primary types of trauma treated are childhood sexual abuse and family violence, and the Trager Lemp Center coordinates with Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center and other community partners. Recently, we received a five year SAMHSA grant that allows us to expand our trauma treatment to youth ages 8-21 who have experienced trauma related to: being BIPOC, being from the LGBT community, the COVID pandemic, who have family with Undocumented Immigration status, and who need more intensive trauma treatment.
Dr. Nelson received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College, her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research, and she completed her clinical postdoctoral training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester.
Dr. Nelson has led efforts at WJCS to become trauma informed throughout the years, and is a member of the Westchester County Trauma Committee (serving as co-chair for five years following its inception), the Multidisciplinary Team in Westchester, the Child Advocacy Center steering committee, and consults with Safe Spaces, the Domestic Violence Council, law enforcement agencies, law firms, and public and independent schools. In recent years, she has presented on Trauma Informed Supervision, Racial Trauma, Vicarious Trauma, Caring for Staff during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Common Factors of Trauma Treatments, Dissociation and other trauma-related topics.
