Shekhar Jha is a Team Lead Scientist and Program Manager at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supervising the induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell therapy clinical trial to transplant autologous retinal pigment epithelium cells for the treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration led by Dr. Kapil Bharti. He oversees the cGMP-compliant product manufacturing and manages the regulatory affairs.
Before his current role, he worked with Dr. Mahendra Rao at the Center for Regenerative Medicine, NIH, to reprogram and differentiate iPS cells to specific neuronal lineages. Shekhar completed his Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neurosciences from Virginia Commonwealth University with his thesis on designing tissue engineered nerve guides incorporated with a localized drug delivery platform to enhance post-injury peripheral nerve regeneration.
