In 2019, over one million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence. In 2020, impaired drivers caused over 11,000 fatalities. Community justice and treatment professionals face unique challenges in assessing risk levels for these offenders while determining the most appropriate level and type of supervision, technology, and treatment needs to minimize the risk of a re-offense and a new victim. Experts in the field of DWI Courts, treatment of substance use disorders, and community supervision will provide an overview of evidence-based practices to address the issues of high-risk impaired drivers from arrest to discharge. This includes the latest research on assessment tools, characteristics of high-risk impaired drivers, community supervision strategies, technologies, the use of problem-solving courts and alcohol treatment programming to help criminal justice and treatment professionals maximize their effectiveness while reducing risk to the community.
