Impaired walkers are nearly 2.5 times more involved in a pedestrian fatal crash than impaired drivers. A study supports the theory that impaired pedestrians were likely former impaired drivers. Laws prohibiting drunk driving and supporting enforcement have helped to reduce alcohol-impaired driving-related motor vehicle fatalities. So, should we prohibit impaired walking? What can federal, state, and local governments and policymakers do to help? This town hall will explore social and systemic constructs that challenge the ability to keep people who choose to drink and not drive but choose to walk safe and foster ideas for change.
